The benefits of edge computing in MEC and other use cases have been presented.  Analysts forecast massive numbers of future workloads running there.  This talk explores the need for improved, yet simplified operations and management automation as compute migrates to the edge cloud.  Modern applications, built using a containerized microservices architecture, enable the latency-critical portions of an application to be placed nearby users and device endpoints.  This presents some operational challenges for application developers and network operators for infrastructure creation and setup, or "day-0 operations;" application deployment, initialization, and bring-up, "day-1 operations," and ongoing application monitoring and upgrade life cycle, "day-2 operations."  In this talk we explore challenges MEC deployments will require, including  placement selection and application distribution at MEC scale; compute and storage abstraction, simplifying multi-cloud DevOps; full lifecycle management for DevOps, day-2 operations.
