"Building true Programmable, Open and Disaggregated Solutions to meet the requirements for next generation RAN" : Around 65-70% of total cost of ownership of a network is in the RAN. The recent trends brought significant change in the core with the innovative technologies like SDN & NFV but the RAN has largely remained untouched.  The STL approach is to disaggregate the RAN,  Virtualize some of its components, Realize virtualized components in the edge cloud and SDNize it for programability.   Some of the Key Benefits are:
1) Frequent changing traffic conditions, Faults and new service requirements can be addressed through frameworks capability for dynamic configuration, scalability, reconfiguration of logical nodes. 2) Open interfaces also enable multi-vendor deployments, enabling a more competitive and vibrant supplier ecosystem.
3) Will support QoE based Load balancing and QoE aware ICIC effectively via SDN based Ran Controller (RIC).
4) Data from the network can be fed to machine learning models which can provide practical usage benefits like optimizing handover for cars driving along a highway, or load-balancing, or power-saving to start.
