Cable operators are deploying the Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) in a journey that moves PHY and MAC functions, introduces virtualization along with dependencies for new network fabric interconnect. Many of these changes have also been occurring for GPON and EPON systems. In this presentation we will explore development and testing done with a Tier 1 operator enabling Trellis fabric to become 'DAA aware' by extending VOLTHA southbound support for GCP communications with Remote PHY devices. As part of a unified on-boarding process we may now use SEBA to both learn the Remote PHY device association as well as support operator network and VNF provisioning in near real time.

Extending VOLTHA to speak the CableLabs GCP standard is a new opportunity to make Trellis and Stratum 'DAA Aware'. Beyond the technical aspects, the audience take away primarily is the opportunity to demonstrate how cable operator access may converge with other FTTH systems already part of the SEBA platform. Further the opportunity for edge compute co-ordination above the access layer still within SEBA presents additional opportunity for operators seeking VNFs spanning DOCSIS and PON systems.
